  McManus & Associates was one of three legal firms recommended to us by TIAA to update our wills. We called the firm in August of 2015 and had a phone consultation with John McManus who informed us that a $5000 payment (about 85% of the full cost) was due up front, but that the price came with yearly reviews of our legal needs. We paid the price confident in the recommendation and the promise of good service from an established firm. The wills delivered to us were standard, long (65 pages), and included many provisions that did not apply to us. The firm set up a date for us to sign the papers before we were satisfied with the products. We requested that the wills be simplified and that the bulk of the legal language be removed. The lawyer who worked with us (Ben Carthew) was accommodating but after months of discussions by phone and one face-to-face meeting, it eventually became clear that the firm would not simplify everything we asked for reasons not explained beyond “You will need this.” We also learned that any future reviews leading to will changes would be billed, and in keeping with their full service promise, they claimed that they would work with our heirs to make sure that all the wills’ provisions were understood, which we took to understand that they were seeking future fees from our survivors. We walked away from the contract dissatisfied with both the products and service. We post this to inform others of our experience with McManus & Associates.

  My Father just passed away and first they said I contacted them via the phone to inquire about the Will. My brother called and not me. My brother said the cover letter that came with the will said I called to inquire. My brother said they kept on calling him Andrew (My name). My brother also had a few simple question he wanted answered and they have not responded but they want him to sign, notarize and return a affidavit. Then I received a email from them stating they have the wrong address but they had the right email to let me know. Stay away from this law firm. Imagine if things were to get just a little bit complicated. They can't even get names and addresses right.
